# Location Access

**Use my location** in the listings search finds the closest city to you. Your position stays in your browser: Rentalot only applies the nearest supported place, never your coordinates.

If it doesn't work, you can always type a city, address, or keyword instead.

## "Location permission was denied"

Your browser blocked the site from asking for your location.

- **Chrome / Edge:** click the icon left of the address bar, open **Site settings**, and set **Location** to **Allow**. Reload the page.
- **Firefox:** click the icon left of the address bar and clear the blocked **Access your location** permission. Reload and choose **Allow**.
- **Safari (Mac):** **Safari → Settings → Websites → Location**, then set this site to **Allow**.
- **iPhone / iPad:** **Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services**: turn it on, then set your browser to **While Using the App**.
- **Android:** **Settings → Location**: turn it on, then allow location for your browser under **App permissions**.

## "Location is unavailable"

Permission was granted, but the browser has no way to work out where you are. Check that your device's location service is on:

- **Windows:** **Settings → Privacy & security → Location**: turn on **Location services** and **Let desktop apps access your location**.
- **Mac:** **System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services**: turn it on and enable your browser.
- **Linux:** browsers rely on a system location service (usually `geoclue`). Install it from your distribution's packages if it's missing.

### Firefox

Firefox finds your position with a network location service. Privacy-hardened Firefox setups often switch it off, and then every request returns "unavailable". To check, open `about:config` and look for:

| Preference | Should be |
|---|---|
| `geo.enabled` | `true` |
| `geo.provider.network.url` | not empty (reset it to restore the default) |
| `geo.provider.testing` | `false` (reset it) |

Restart Firefox after changing these. If you use a privacy extension or a hardened profile (such as arkenfox or LibreWolf), it may set them back on restart.

## "Location timed out" or "too imprecise"

Your device answered too slowly or only with a rough position (for example, from your IP address on a desktop without Wi-Fi). Try again on Wi-Fi with location services on, or type your city.
