# Slash Commands

Slash commands give you instant lookups in the management chat. Type `/` followed by a command name and Rentalot returns the result straight from your data, without calling the AI model.

## Run a command

1. Open **Chat** from the dashboard sidebar.
2. Type `/` followed by the command, for example `/properties active`.
3. Press Enter. The result appears right away.

Type `/help` at any time to see the list in the chat.

## Available commands

| Command | Example | What it does |
|---------|---------|--------------|
| `/properties [status]` | `/properties active` | List your properties. Optionally filter by status: `active`, `archived`, `rented`, or `inactive`. |
| `/property <address>` | `/property 123 Main` | Look up one property by full or partial address. |
| `/availability [date]` | `/availability 2026-03-15` | Show open showing slots. With a date (`YYYY-MM-DD`), checks that day; without one, checks the next 7 days. |
| `/contacts [search]` | `/contacts John` | List contacts, optionally searching by name, email, or phone. |
| `/events [upcoming\|past]` | `/events past` | List events such as showings, calls, and inspections. Shows upcoming events unless you add `past`. |
| `/conversations [active\|archived]` | `/conversations active` | List recent conversations, optionally filtered by status. |
| `/followups [status]` | `/followups pending` | List scheduled follow-ups, optionally filtered by `pending`, `processing`, `sent`, `cancelled`, or `failed`. |
| `/stats` | `/stats` | Dashboard overview: properties by status, active conversations, upcoming events, and total contacts. |
| `/usage` | `/usage` | Your plan's usage: messages today and this billing period, properties used, and when the period resets. |
| `/help` | `/help` | Show the available commands. |

There is no `/showings` command. Showings are events, so use `/events`.

## How they work

When your message starts with `/`, Rentalot checks whether it matches a command **before** anything is sent to the AI. If it matches:

- Your data is looked up directly.
- The result is formatted and returned instantly.
- The AI model isn't called, so the answer is the same every time.

If the command isn't recognized, your message goes to the AI assistant as normal. Typing `/somethingelse` won't cause an error; it's treated as a regular message.

## Commands vs. plain language

**Use a slash command** for a quick, predictable lookup: "list my active properties," "what events are coming up," "how much of my plan have I used."

**Use plain language** when you need the assistant to think: "find properties under $2,000 that allow dogs," "book a showing for John tomorrow afternoon," or "draft an email to the prospect who asked about parking." The assistant can search, filter, combine tools, and write replies in ways slash commands can't.
